A Little Slice of Life - Wrapped Up in Books

In the middle of last summer, several teachers got together and we started a book club. It's been so much fun. I think we spend more time catching up on the past month than actually talking about the books. We've read a wide selection so far

  1. The Ocean At The End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman
  2. Girl in Translation by Jean Kwok
  3. The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty
  4. The Panopticon by Jenni Fagan - most of us did not finish this one.
  5. Pretty in Plaid by Jen Lancaster
  6. The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton- only 4 of us finished this one
  7. The Archived by Victoria Schwab
With the exception of number 4, I would say pick any of these if you have a book club.  Some I really enjoyed reading and some I really enjoyed discussing! Although I've lead many book clubs at school, this is the first adult one I've ever been involved in and I highly recommend it!  Next up, The Orphan Master's Son by Adam Johnson.

I'm slicing it up with Two Writing Teachers for the month of March. The goal is to write something each day in March.

  1. The only one I've read on that list is The Ocean at the End of the Lane and I would have loved to have some adults to talk to about it.

  2. Hi! Thank you for listing recent reads with your adult bookclub. I will pass on some of those to my downtown women's bookclub.
Our motto is "It's not always about the book." Our catch up conversations and spin-offs from the books are sometimes the best part of our monthly gathering at one another's house. And, you can come to book club even if you didn't read the latest selection.
    Guilt free.
This month I'm highly motivated to read all of Billy Collins Aimless Love.

  3. Our book club seems to be a unique combination of combing our thoughts and experiences from the book with that of our own lives as moms, wives, etcetera. I think that's what makes it last and something we all desperately look forward to each month! I have jotted down your suggestions for my next pick!

  4. I need to read a little more adult fiction...just to mix it up.
