Sigh.
Will I Ever
Tire
of being upset
when
The worker half my age
calls me
Honey?
No.
Isn't it Better
Than
Ma'am?
No.
What if they said "thankyousomuchforvisitingourestablishment, werecognizewewouldnothaveajobherewithoutyourcontinuedpatronage, Honey, Ma'am."
No.
No, honey.
No, ma,am.

I agree!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Love the poetry. Keep it coming.
ReplyDeleteI am so on board with honey as the alternative to ma'am. When we ate out at Easter, I said, "Yeah, we're tipping that waitress an *extra* few bucks just because we were all (my daughters and me) Miss. :>)
ReplyDeleteI call my students "dear" and sometimes "sweetie" (usually as in "Oh, sweetie, no..."), so I never mind if someone calls me an endearment. I think that some of my students never have anyone who calls them by endearments, and that's sad. I do get your point, but I don't mind "ma'am" either. At least they have some manners!
